The Doona X infant car seat is a stroller-car seat combo. As of today, the Doona and the Evenflo DualRide are the only other infant seats on the market with this feature — all other infant car seats have to be clicked into a separate compatible stroller. The Doona X is an excellent option for busy parents who are always on the go.

Stand Out Features of this Car Seat

Load Leg

A load leg is a metal pole that comes down from a rear-facing car seat and rests on the vehicle’s floor. Load legs reduce crash forces, which offers additional protection, especially for your child’s head, neck, and spine.

Integrated Stroller Mode

The Doona X has an integrated stroller mode feature! You can use the car seat as a stroller with the integrated stroller wheels for quick trips. This version comes with recline settings for stroller mode.

Rigid Lower Anchors

Unlike flexible lower anchors at the end of a strap, these anchors are steel bars that protrude directly from the car seat's base and attach to your vehicle’s lower anchor points. This connection style is generally considered a user-friendly installation. When done correctly (which is easy to do), it creates an extremely tight connection (no movement) between the car seat and the vehicle, which is a very good thing in the land of child passenger safety.

Seat is Good for You If:

You frequently use Lyft/Uber/Taxis.

You’ll be ready to ride in a single step when you’re using the Doona X in a taxi or rideshare. Just install the Doona X baseless like this, and you’re ready to go with the car seat mode! When you reach your destination, it’s just as easy to keep moving: you’ll unbuckle the car seat, unfold the stroller wheels, and be on your way with the stroller mode. You won’t need to unload a separate stroller and attach your infant car seat, so the Doona will make loading and unloading a seamless experience! It also features recline modes for naptime and young babies.

You travel often within the US and Canada.

If you are a frequent flier within the US and Canada, the Doona X is an FAA-approved car seat and one of the best car seats for air travel. You’ll travel light without a base or a separate stroller, setting you up for a smooth trip with less gear.

You don’t want to buy a separate stroller.

Maybe you’re unimpressed by the trendy baby strollers compatible with your car seat of choice, or you don’t have the space for a full-sized stroller that can accommodate a newborn in a car seat or bassinet. Either way, the Doona X car seat and stroller in one solves your problem! Use the Doona X for the first year or so, and then you can switch to something new — whether that’s a compact stroller that fits perfectly in your sedan’s trunk or even a wagon to cart multiple kids around in style."

Use Caution if:

You would prefer a lightweight infant seat.

This is one of the heaviest infant seats on the market today, so some parents may find it difficult to lift it in and out of the car with a growing baby buckled up inside. With the stroller wheels, you can avoid lifting and carrying this seat most of the time — but it’ll still have to be hoisted into the car, which might be challenging for some caregivers.

You intend to travel internationally.

A car seat must be locked in place for safe installation, and outside of the US and Canada, vehicle seatbelts typically don’t have the same locking mechanism as US and Canadian vehicles do. You’ll need another way to lock the vehicle seatbelt: a locking clip or a car seat with a built-in lock-off. Since there’s no lock-off on the Doona X, you’d need a locking clip to use it outside of the US and Canada. You can contact Doona to get one.

Depending on your destination, you may find vehicles that have lower anchors (also called ISOFIX). If that’s the case and you plan to travel with the base, it can be installed with lower anchors instead of the seat belt. If you are heading overseas with your little jet setter, you may find it easier to take a car seat with a lock-off instead, just in case you don’t have a vehicle with lower anchors. If you do plan to use a locking clip, watch this step-by-step video so you know how to use one.

Quirks to be Aware of:

Lower Anchor Installation

Unlike most infant seats, the lower anchors on the Doona X have a maximum weight limit. You can only use them to install the base until the child is 25 lbs. If you want to continue using the seat after that, you'll have to install the base with the seat belt instead.

Child Fit Information

Our model just turned 2 years old. Most kids her age would have outgrown the seat long ago. She is 21 lbs and almost 32." She is on the second highest headrest setting and has a few inches above her head. It's certainly a long-lasting option.
