Stand Out Features of this Car Seat
Rigid Lower Anchors
The Joie Bay Latch SI has rigid lower anchors that can be used to install the seat. You can use them along with the top tether until the child is 40 pounds. From 40 pounds, you are allowed to install the seat with the lower anchors, seat belt, and top tether at the same time. This is one of the few seats that allows this!
Lock-off
The Joie Bay Latch SI has a seat belt lock-off. After tightening the seat belt, you simply slide the shoulder belt through the lock-off. This makes installation easy and quick. This also lets you use the seat in vehicles made before 1996, which do not have locking seat belts. Or in international vehicles, which would also have non-locking seat belts.
Magentic Chest Clip
The magnetic chest clip is easy for caregivers to use. It is harder for toddlers to unbuckle, so it can be a good option for kids who have figured out how to unbuckle other chest clips.
Seat is Good for You If:
You want a seat that is easy to install.
It's super easy to install with the rigid lower anchors and top tether. I did it in under a minute. For kids over 40 pounds, you must also add the seat belt, but if you install it in conjunction with the rigid lower anchors, it remains fast and easy to get a tight installation.
You have a tall child.
The highest harness height is 18.5", which is on the taller side. The highest shoulder belt guide position for the high back booster mode is 22", which is excellent for a harnessed booster!
Use Caution If:
You need to fit 3 people in one row of the vehicle.
When we measured the seat, we got 18.25" at the widest point, meaning it won't work for 3 across in most vehicles.
Quirks to be Aware of:
Harness Height
This seat has a sticker showing the maximum shoulder height for the harness. It's easy to see, but it is unusual for US seats. You must stop using the harness when your child's shoulders reach this height marker.
Backless Booster Mode
The backless booster mode minimum weight is 50 pounds. We're noting it as a quirk since this is uncommon.
Side Impact Bolster
The side impact bolster is required until the child is 40 pounds and should be removed before using the seat in booster mode. The requirement is due to the new side impact standards.
