Child Fit
Child fit is a big consideration when choosing your child's longest-lasting and best-fitting car seat. Click here for our Find Your Best Car Seat Tool to learn more about child fit.
Circumstances
SITS TIP: Do you need to fit 3 passengers seated side by side? Will you need to some day? Some car seats are much wider than others, if you know you'll likely be transporting more kids one day, let's take that into consideration when purchasing
SITS TIP: Choose this if you want your everyday car seat to double as a lightweight option for travel too.
SITS TIP: The driver and passenger must be seated safely too. If on the taller side, a seat that takes up less room front to back will be best.
SITS TIP: All car seats must be locked in place. Some car seats have a built-in lock-off feature that locks the seat belt for you. Some have this feature in rear and forward-facing mode, and some in just forward-facing mode. Be sure to read the details on each seat. Heads up! When traveling internationally, most vehicles do not have a locking mechanism on their seat belts like we do in the US and Canada. You will need a car seat with a built-in lock-off or will need to use a locking clip.
SITS TIP: Grandparents and caregivers this may be you! Different size kiddos using the same car seat means child fit adjustments need to be made! A no-rethread harness allows you to adjust the shoulder strap height by moving the headrest up and down versus a rethread harness that requires manually routing the shoulder straps.

Car Specs
SITS TIP: Some car seats allow the use of an inflatable seat belt to install in all modes others only allow its use in specific modes. Some car seats do not allow inflatable seat belts at all.
SITS TIP: Non-removable headrests can make installing a car seat forward-facing challenging as not all are compatible.
SITS TIP: The driver and passenger must be seated safely too. If on the taller side, a seat that takes up less room front to back will be best.
SITS TIP: Lower anchor connectors have weight limits as to how long they can be used. If you have a 3-row SUV and need to access the 3rd row on a regular basis, using lower anchor connectors on a sliding 2nd-row captain's chair would be preferred. Choose a car seat with a high lower anchor limit to allow for the tilt or sliding feature to be used.

Safety Features
SITS TIP: Can reduce the secondary movement of the car seat, called rebound, during a crash. It helps limit the car seat movement and your child inside and may also limit the side-to-side rotation of the car seat in a side-impact collision.
SITS TIP: The infant seat can be installed without using the infant seat base. The shoulder belt wraps around the back of the infant seat to reduce crash forces.
SITS TIP: A load leg is a metal “leg” that comes down from an infant car seat base and goes to the vehicle floor. It is used to reduce crash forces on baby’s head/neck/spine in the event of a crash.
SITS TIP: Unlike flexible lower anchors on the end of a strap, rigid lower anchors are steel bars that protrude out directly from the steel frame of the car seat and attach directly to your vehicle’s lower anchors. This connection style is generally considered a user-friendly install. It creates an extremely tight connection between the car seat and the vehicle, which is critical to child passenger safety.

Convenience Features
SITS TIP: A travel system is designed to work with your infant car seat and a stroller or stroller base, allowing you to move your baby from the car to the stroller without removing them from their infant car seat. Remember, this is for short trips only. The car seat is not a sleeping device for your baby.
SITS TIP: Manufacturers have very specific rules as to what type of vehicle seat protector, if any, is allowed. Some strictly prohibit their use. Some allow just a thin towel or blanket, others only their own branded mat. Some allow all of the above! Be sure to check your manual for specifics on your car seat.
SITS TIP! Some car seats convert from a forward-facing harness seat to a high-back booster.
SITS TIP! Some seats convert to a no-back booster, the final car seat stage. In our opinion, this isn’t a deal breaker since you can buy no-back booster starting at $18.
SITS TIP: All car seats must meet the flammability standard, some car seats add chemicals to the fabric while others use specific fabric that is naturally flame retardant.
SITS TIP: Some high back boosters can fold which may be convenient for travel and ride share families.
SITS TIP: In the booster stage lower anchor connectors are not used to install the booster. They are used to secure an empty booster so that it does not become a projectile in the event of a car crash. All boosters are safe whether they have this feature or they don’t.
SITS TIP: Swivel/Rotating Seats are car seats that rotate and allow caregivers to load and unload their kids while facing them.
